The Singing Salon – an evening of musical entertainment

The final festival event will be a joyous performance by The Singing Salon, a group of fantastically talented singers led by Pippa Dames-Longworth. They will perform a gorgeous medley of melodies from opera and operetta, musical favourites and chansons.

The Singing Salon singers come from far and wide – Salisbury, London, Portsmouth – Steyning and Shoreham!  You are ensured an evening of enchanting and thrilling singing ranging from Mozart’s Magic Flute and Bizet’s Carmen through to Lehar’s Merry Widow and the thrilling Trio from Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier. Singing Salon is directed by respected mezzo soprano Pippa Dames-Longworth.  Since Pippa formed the group thirteen years ago, Singing Salon, consisting of fifteen solo voices, has performed in all sorts of venues particularly those with a reputation for opening their doors to a wide and varied arts audience.  Pippa is herself an experienced and versatile performer and is driven by a wish to create opportunities for singers and for audiences alike to enjoy this glorious repertoire.

Singing Salon’s ‘immersive’ version of ‘Hansel and Gretel’ included sell-out performances in the Bentley Wildfowl Woods and at the renowned Charleston Farmhouse near Lewes, earning rave reviews; their ‘Midsummer Magic’ performances with perambulating audiences enchanted all ages in The Villages Music Festival as did their Gala performances for the Jimena International Festival in Spain.  Over six years, Pippa devised staged performances for The Royal Pavilion in Brighton that were very popular and included amongst other things, an abridged and charming ‘Magic Flute’, a delightful baroque romp, ‘Titania’, an exciting evening in ‘Café Momus’ (La Boheme) and their fun, Victorian show, ‘A Christmas Parlour’.
