The global fragmented order: Baroness Catherine Ashton

Since the invasion of Ukraine, and then the election of Donald Trump, the global international order has been turned on its head. We now have four major global players – the USA, Russia, China and the European Union – all, apparently, out-of-sync. The big question is what are the prospects of achieving some sort of balanced new world order? And what about the other flashpoints – Gaza, Kashmir, Sudan etc – how will this new dispensation deal with these ongoing crises? As Cathy Ashton was the EU’s High Commissioner for International Affairs, few are in a better position to assess where the world is now and where it might be heading.
