Pollsters now agree that since the recent general and local elections, British Politics has fragmented in an unprecedented way. We now have five parties (six in Wales and Scotland) that can reasonably compete for most seats. Is this fragmentation now a permanent aspect of the UK’s politics and if so, what are its implications? One of the UK’s leading pollsters, Peter Kellner, a former president of YouGov, will discuss this new political landscape and also address a related but important question – does this new ecology make life easier or more difficult for pollsters?
