Shoreham Wordfest- David Olusoga OBE: The Job of a Historian

October 9, 2021 2:30 pm

£16

David Olusoga is a historian, writer, broadcaster, presenter and film-maker, and is of dual British and Nigerian heritage. He is Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester.  David has presented historical documentaries on the BBC and has become a prominent cultural commentator.

In this specially commissioned talk for Shoreham Wordfest, David will address the topic of “Culture Wars,” challenging the recent backlash against attempts to revisit the historical legacy of Britain’s imperial past, despite the continuing racism and inequality experienced by many.  He recently wrote: “My job is to be a historian. It is not to make people feel good…..People have decided that their national myths are so important, they don’t care about truth.” (The Guardian 7 June 2021)
